Maya Ellison
Bio
Maya Ellison is a Brooklyn-based filmmaker and spoken word artist whose work fuses cinematic imagery with poetry, dance, and memory. Her visual storytelling explores womanhood, generational resilience, and emotional inheritance across urban landscapes. Influenced by Toni Morrison, bell hooks, and her grandmother’s photo albums, Maya creates short-form visual poetry that feels both personal and collective—introspective, political, and profoundly human.

Signature Work

The Sidewalk Knows My Name, set against the backdrop of Harlem’s changing streets, this documentary-poem is a love letter to the women who shaped Maya’s world. Told through movement, archival photos, and voiceover, it’s a layered meditation on legacy, loss, and survival.
How Artramedia Helped:
Artramedia featured Maya’s film in the Roots & Resistance spotlight and helped her secure a multi-city screening partnership with cultural centers. The platform also connected her with the Creator Speaker Series, where she led a paid workshop on visual poetry and storytelling for young creatives. These opportunities expanded Maya’s visibility, increased her licensing income, and allowed her to begin production on her next film project, Salt in the Brickwork.
